As a doctor working in the NHS, I see the impact of chronic disease every day. While modern medicine has advanced significantly in treating illness, much of healthcare remains focused on managing disease after it develops rather than preventing it in the first place. What is often missing is the time, support and education needed to help people understand how lifestyle, behaviour and long-term habits influence their health.
Lifestyle Medicine is grounded in strong scientific evidence showing that nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, smoking cessation and social connection play a major role in preventing and managing conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity and hypertension. I believe these approaches deserve as much priority as conventional medical treatments, because they address root causes rather than only symptoms.
Health Coaching complements this by helping patients translate medical advice into sustainable behavioural change. Travel Medicine aligns closely with prevention-focused care, with evidence-based risk assessment, vaccination guidance and advice tailored to safe international travel. Together, these fields let me focus not only on treating illness, but on promoting long-term health, wellbeing and prevention.
